Minor Oral Surgical Procedures

1. Impacted wisdom teeth
2. Periapical surgeries like apicectomy
3. Preprosthetic surgeries
4. Small cyst Enucleation

Impacted wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt in the mouth. If the wisdom teeth erupt properly & surrounding gums are healthy, then these wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. In any case if the wisdom teeth are prevented from properly erupting with in the mouth, extraction of wisdom teeth becomes necessary. When these wisdom teeth gets partially erupted the opening around the tooth allows bacteria to grow, causing an infection which will result in stiffness, pain& illness. The pressure from the erupting wisdom tooth may move other teeth & disrupt the natural alignment of teeth. The most serious problem occurs when the tumours or cysts form around impacted wisdom tooth resulting in destruction of jaw bone & healthy teeth. Procedure

[/plethora_headinggroup][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]Usually extraction procedure is done under local anaesthesia. An incision is made over the gum tissue & after tooth removal (some times which may involve bone guttering),gum is sutured back. Later patient will be asked to bite down on guage to control bleeding. Then post operative instructions are given. A prescription for pain medication , antibiotics & follow up appointment after one week for suture removal are instructed to the patient.[/vc_column_text][plethora_headinggroup align=”text-left” css=”.vc_custom_1628139134236{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}”]

Preprosthetic Surgeries

[/plethora_headinggroup][vc_column_text]The preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis is referred to as prosthetic surgery. It is actually the bone ridge on which the denture will rest. So it is very important that ridge bone sharp & size should be in proper condition to support denture. If the tooth needs to be extracted the underlying bone might be left sharp & uneven. For best fit, sometimes excess bone removal should be done before Denture insertion. One/more of the following procedures might need to be performed in order to prepare your mouth for denture.

1. Bone smoothening/reshaping
2. Removal of excess bone
3. Bone ridge reduction
4. Removal of excess gum tissue

Periapical surgeries like Apicectomy

• Fractured tooth root
• Severly curved tooth root
• Teeth with caps/posts
• Cyst /infection which is untreated with RCT
• Root perforations
• Recurrent pain & infection even with RCT tooth
• Calcification
• Persist symptoms that do not indicate problems from xrays

Procedure

[/plethora_headinggroup][vc_column_text]The dentist will make an incision in your gum & lift the gum away from the tooth & bone. The dentist may need to use a drill to gain access to the root. The infected tissue will be removed along with the last few millimetres of root tip. Then the dentist will clean & seal the end of tooth canal. Small Cyst Enucleation

[/plethora_headinggroup][vc_column_text]Enucleation refers to removal of all tissues, both hard & soft involved in a lesion. It is a procedure actually performed in an attempt to remove the cyst in one piece without fragmentation which reduces the chances of recurrence.
